“Three aspects of the proposal are fundamental to its success: ARM’s imposed framework, the process of reviewing actual proposals, and the balance between public and private sector roles... ARM empower developers to devise consistency, coordination and complementarity in their own proposals.”

Architecture Australia, March/April, 1997.

ARM was initially engaged to provide 3D representations of the existing planning scheme, and to propose an alternative, denser planning scheme. This commission was extended into a key role in devising the conceptual masterplan for Melbourne Docklands, including major presentations to the Victorian Government, City of Melbourne and the property industry.

From this point we have advised Melbourne Docklands Authority (now VicUrban) on many aspects of the masterplan. We have also implemented parts of the plan, both through our work on Harbour Esplanade and Docklands Park, and through our work with developers on the masterplans of Victoria Harbour, Yarra’s Edge and Digital Harbour precincts. More recently we completed two buildings for Digital Harbour, the latest (1010 LaTrobe) achieving a 5 star Greenstar rating and winning a Premier’s Design Award and both Victorian and National AIA design awards.
