Richmond - Melbourne, Victoria AUS Client: Pro Medicus
“This is one in a series of buildings by ARM that explores the architectural possibilities of lumpy surfaces. Meanwhile the clients enjoy the suggestion in the concave facade of high-tech reflectors or transmitters”Haig Beck & Jackie Cooper |

Pro Medicus is a medical software company which uses computers to generate form. They commissioned ARM to create new offices from an old bank needing major alterations and extensions. The facade was generated using volumetric extraction known as Boolean operations (after the 19th century mathematician, Boole). Dimensioned deformation is explored as the formal strategy of the design. It was built using a truncated geodesic dome as the facade which directly determines the interior space of the public areas, resulting in an extraordinary sense of implosion. |
