The 'Green Brain' at RMIT University on the corner of Swanston and LaTrobe Streets, has been transformed by ARM into the University’s Info Corner.

The makeover has turned the former bookshop into a university showcase and first point of call for many prospective students.

The green of the front door is most visible in its cloud-like awning on Swanston Street and contrasts strikingly against the university’s heritage colours, in a predominantly red brick building.

The RMIT Conference facility provides a premium conference suite on the roof of Building 22 to connect with and complement the existing seminar spaces on level seven of the adjacent Storey Hall annexe building. The conference facility comprises a flexible conference space that is capable of seating 100 people in a lecture format, 50 people in a conference format and two groups of 20 people when divided by an operable wall into two conference rooms.

Building 22 was benchmarked against the Green Star Office rating and achieved an equivalent score of 52 points or 4 stars. The project incorporates 10,000 litres of water storage (figure determined from the roof catchment area and Melbourne’s annual rainfall) that is used for toilet flushing. It also incorporates 5 star WELLS fittings to reduce water consumption.

The thermal envelope exceeds BCA requirements by 20%, creating significant greenhouse gas savings. The building layout maximises the spectacular views over the State Library of Victoria forecourt.
